One of the Few on My “Do Not Read” List
Review by Kim Cantrell
Let me make this simple: Deadly Weekend is one of the worst true crime books I have ever had the displeasure of reading.
Or, should I say, reading as much as I could.
It is the first work that I have ever opted to just stop reading; it was simply that bad.
Deadly Weekend is a one sided account of the murder of Dr. Mark Sheppard.
The book is written by John Dillmann, a New Orleans Police Department Homicide Detective, who works hard to solve the case.
Unfortunately, Dillman waste too much time in the first couple of chapters giving us an inside view of police politics.
We know there is politics in every government agency, but we do not need a detailed account of these occurences.
True crime fans read for the kinky secrets, the exposure of skeletons in closets (sometimes literally!), the madness, the depravity; we could care less about the bickering between homicide detectives.
Dillmann is the author of two other books. Unless something drastically changes my mind, this guy is on my “Do Not Read” list.
Want to read it anyway? Here’s where to buy new and used copies:
