No One Can Hurt Him Anymore by Carol Rothgeb
Readers of No One Can Hurt Him Anymore - the gutwrenching story of Andrew Joseph “A.J.” Schwarz, who died at the hands of his abusive stepmother - will leave readers wondering why, once again, a government that seems so intent on being involved in our lives failed this ten year old victim.
While reading this book, I experienced so many feelings: love, hatred, sorrow, anger, need for vegenance. This book kept me on an emotional rollercoaster for the duration.
Having been one of the most emotion provoking books I’ve read in quite some time, I’m sure that it would have done so even more had most of the book not be copied straight from the trial transcripts. It was during these sections that I felt my emotions subside and found myself often skimming was frequently found to be repeatitive information.
Although the writing style left a lot to be desired, I would still recommend reading this book. It will truly give great insight into how the system that makes rules to protect our children more frequently fail them. And this time, Florida’s broken promise to one child resulted in his death.
