Sixteen years after the crime and following his execution, Bobby Coulson supporters continue to proclaim his innocence in the death of his family…his entire family.
In Lyn Riddle’s 1997 true crime book titled Ashes to Ashes, readers are given an inside view of the Coulson home; specifically the trials and tribulations suffered through by Bobby’s parents as they struggled to raise this child they had so willing taken into their home and adopted at the age of three.
And how would their kindness be rewarded? Bobby’s adoptive mother would be the first to die, followed closely by his adoptive father. And when they were done, he killed his adoptive sister (whom he claimed to feel a strong kinship with). And lastly, he would kill the only biological family he knew: his older sister Robin, five months pregnant with her first child, and her husband Rick Wentworth.
The police investigation that followed is an interesting tale within itself. However, Bobby Coulson leaves little doubt as to his guilt or innocence, especially as he tries to manipulate his partner in crime (turned narc) Jared Althaus to continue keeping his mouth shut about the murders.
The end result: Bobby Coulson told too many lies, said too many things, and ended up looking like an idiot when testifying on his own behalf. Instead of winning the confidence of the jurors, he instead roped himself a death sentence.
