Needle Work by Fred Rosen (March 2009)

Leave it to author Fred Rosen to take a mediocre crime story and turn it into a whole true crime book:  Needle Work.

Such as the case of the murder of Nancy Billiter, who was murdered by her close friend Carol Giles and Giles’ drug-addicted boyfriend Tim Collier.

This case involves the three previously mentioned persons who all met through their recreational activities; specifically, drugs.

Needle Work immediately opens with the discovery of Billiter’s body in an affluent Michigan town’s park, then quickly leads to the confession of Carol Giles; a self-serving confession that would be changed two more times.

This book also contains a murder within a murder, so to speak as readers learn that Giles and Collier also each played their respective roles in the death of Giles’ grossly obese, diabetic husband Jessie.

This is a very fast paced read. And, as stated before, essentially takes what would a crime story overlooked by most into an interesting tale of the effects of adultry, greed and drugs.
