At just the tender age of seven-years-old, author Zachary Lazar lost his father to a mafia-ordered murder.
Edward Lazar started down the path of his fate when he became involved in fraudenlent real estate deals; purchasing undesirable or non-existent land, subdividing it, and then selling to people with a desire to “flip it” for a profit.
While Evening’s Empire is being promoted as a true crime, I personally feel it belongs in the biography section.
It’s obvious that this was the author’s attempt to revive his father, if through memory only, and in some way reconnect with a man he never really knew.
I truly hoped the author feels a unique bond with his father, as I can’t even imagine what it feels to lose your father so young.
However, as for being a true crime read, I don’t recommend it.
