I’ve never been a big fan of Mafia related true crime because, in my opinion, the Mafia is losing its allure; its mystery, so to speak.
But I absolutely loved Philip Carlo‘s book Night Stalker on the crimes of Richard Ramirez; so when given the chance to read The Butcher: Anatomy of a Mafia Psychopath, I gladly accepted.
Philip Carlo didn’t fail me.
Although I spent a great deal of the book trying to sort out names of the players and to what family they belonged, I found the story’s main focus Tommy Pitera to be an interesting, albeit viciously psychotic, person.
Everyone at some point in their life has heard tales of Mafia crimes, but the killings of Tommy Pitera will take you beyond anything you could ever imagine.
If you’re a fan of Mafia true crime, The Butcher is a must read for you. Even those who typically shy way from the Mafia based books will still find a thoroughly engaging, truly shocking read in this newest release from author Philip Carlo.
