Friday Fiction: The Sculptor by Gregory Funaro (January 2010)

Come Forth From The Stone
Review by Kim Cantrell

Dr. Catherine Hildebrant is the world’s foremost scholar on all things Michelanglo; from his mysterious life to the creation of his now famous scultpures.

As a professor at the esteemed Brown University in Rhode Island, she teaches her passion to many students. And now the FBI needs her help.

There is a serial killer in the midst who replicates Michelanglo’s art using “material” that for his work that no one would have even imagined: HUMANS.

Author Gregory Funaro debuts with The Sculptor, an absolute thought-provoking roller coaster from beginning to end.

From the first pages, readers will be shocked and appalled by the explicit details of a serial killer – but nonetheless intrigued.

Beware, as this is not for the squimish. Funaro’s superb writing skills makes it easy for your mind to conjure frightenly vivid images.

And history buffs, such as myself, will find themselves “[coming] forth from the stone” frequently as they learn interesting things about Michelanglo that were never taught in school.

It is seldom that you find such exemplary writing from a first time author, yet Funaro has accomplished just that.

I was left with the impression that there may be a sequel to this book. I most certainly hope so!
