When a Nice Girl Meets a Gold Digging Satan.
Review by Kim Cantrell
When Julie Miller was a young girl, she made the decision she would focus on career first then pursue the American dream: nice husband, nice kids, nice house, picket fence.
But when both her parents became terminally ill, the pursuit was sidetracked.
And when she re-entered the living world, time had passed her by.
With her parents gone and her brother married and moved out, Julie felt the loneliness sink in.
When she placed a personals ad in hopes to meet Mr. Right, she instead made a date with the devil.
Dennis Bulloch was a nobody, but he wanted to be somebody; no matter the cost.
And when he learned that Julie was financially comfortable, he set his sights on marrying her.
Only ten weeks into the marriage, however, Julie would die a vicious death; suffocated by gags and horribly burned in a fire.
Police would come to learn that the man who vowed to love Julie, never had.
Ellen Harris’ 1992 book Dying to Get Married is one of the saddest books that true crime fans will ever read.
Although the writing can be mundane and redundant at times, the emotional roller coaster experience makes those flaws quickly forgotten.
Definitely add Dying to Get Married to your list….and be sure to keep the Kleenex handy!
