Red Hot Reading for Legal Thriller Fans
Review by Kim Cantrell
Isabel “Izzy” McNeil is a woman destined to succeed. As the attorney for multibillionaire Forester Pickett’s media business, she’s the highest paid associate in her firm; and on track to be the youngest partner.
And if life wasn’t perfect enough, she’s in the midst of planning a December wedding to a gorgeous, very successful financial advisor.
But when Forester suddenly dies and her fiance disappears with 30 million dollars worth of Panamanian property shares, life as she knew is no more.
Izzy isn’t one to just set back and let the cards fall where they may, though. She’s a red-headed, determined go-getter. And she’s going to get the answers.
She’ll embark on an investigation that’ll find her questioned by the FBI, being followed by shady-looking characters, communicating with her fiance’s ex-girlfriend (whom she sees as a rival), and traveling to another country in search of answers.
And she may just find out things that were possibly better left unsaid.
It took me a couple of times of starting and stopping to read Laura Caldwell’s Red Hot Lies. Each time I started reading, I had trouble getting into the story.
Finally determined to finish this book, I plowed through the first couple of slow-moving, catch-ya-up-to-speed chapters and then I was hooked!
I’m so glad I gave it another shot because this was an AWESOME legal thriller.
Regular readers know I’m not much on romance and the story outlined above indicates there is some; and there is, but no so much as to bog down the story. As a matter of fact, it adds to it.
This is the first of the Izzy McNeil novels I’ve read, but I’ll definitely be reading the others.
So I’m definitely add Red Hot Lies by Laura Caldwell to the list of “Must Read Fiction.”
Give ‘em a try and let me know what you think.
