It’ll Mess With Your Mind
Review by Kim Cantrell
Set in 1954 in a remote setting off the shores of Boston known as Shutter Island, US Marshal Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) is there to investigate the recent disappearance of a patient from the Ashcliff Psychiatric Institute for the criminally insane.
With his new partner at his side, Daniels seeks the answers to a mystery that is bigger than he could have ever imagined.
Suffering through his own migraines and flashbacks of his days as a U.S. soldier freeing those imprisoned at Nazi prison camps, Daniels has a strong sense of right and wrong – and there’s something very wrong going on at Ashcliff.
But that’s all I’m going to tell you about this newest from director Martin Scorsese.
While I could not declare it the BEST psychological thriller of the year, because at times it can drag and become a quite tedious, the ending definitely makes it ALL worth watching.
Yet to divulge much more about this movie would be to ruin it.
So I will leave you with this…watch Shutter Island; bear through the boring parts; and I promise the ending will leave you thinking, “Wow!”
Side Note: I was strongly advised to read the book before watching the movie, but I didn’t. While I can’t attest to the quality of the book, I’m guessing it would have filled many gaps. So you may want to consider reading the book titled Shutter Island before watching the movie.
