Friday Fiction: A Cure For Night by Justin Peacock (September 2008)

Eerily Reminiscent of John Grisham
Review by Kim Cantrell

Admist a drug related scandal, Joel Deveraux is forced to leave his position as a high-priced corporate attorney. He then takes on a much lower paying position in the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office.

From Deveraux’s point of view, he feels as if he’s just a spec in the New York Judicial system.

Until he takes on the second chair position to a more experienced female colleague in a high profile murder trial.

A Cure For Night is author Justin Peacock’s debut novel – one that set him on target to be a bestselling author.

The first thing I noticed in reading this book was that it was eerily reminiscent of John Grishams Novels, with a few exceptions (or substitutions?): setting in NYC versus Memphis (or other southern locale), main character is a public defender instead of a struggling and/or high priced defense attorney.

Just a couple of examples to give you a clear picture.

Being that I was able to spot such distinct similarities within the just the prologue, and being a long time Grisham fan, it took a little while for me to “warm up” to the story. But I’m glad that I continued reading.

With strong character development, well organized plots, A Cure For Night quickly turned into a legal thriller that ROCKED!

If you enjoy legal thrillers, especially those by John Grisham, then you definitely want to add Justin Peacock’s books to your read list.
