The Finale of a Great Investigative Duo
Review by Kim Cantrell
When I was offered an advanced reader copy of Dennis Lehane’s upcoming November release titled Moonlight Mile, I was excited to accept. Especially after reading the great reviews on his previous books.
The newest novel from this New York Times bestselling author introduces the sequel to his 1999 book Gone, Baby, Gone(yes, the one and the same for which Ben Affleck based his 2007 movie blockbuster hitby the same name, which starred his brother Casey Affleck).
Patrick Kenzie and Angela “Angie” Gennaro are again looking for Amanda McCreary. In 1999, she was a four-year-old who was taken from her doting kidnappers and returned to her God-forsaken, drunken, junkie of a mother.
Now she’s a sixteen year old who may have created a whole new identity (or identities) for herself and missing of her own volition.
Either way, her Aunt Bea needs an answer.
At first, Patrick is going it alone but Angie has had enough of being a stay-at-home mom to their young daughter and decides to end her sabbatical and join Patrick in the hunt.
In what’s obviously a grand finale for this dynamic investigative duo, they’ll meet a vast array of characters; from baby thieving doctors to schizophrenic Latino gangsters.
While the book’s title severely underplays the thrill ride within, I can easily see a movie sequel here (though not by the same title this time).
If you’ve read and/or watched Gone, Baby, Gone then definitely follow up with Moonlight Mile. Otherwise, start with GBG then read MM. You’re missing two awesome stories if you don’t!
Available now for pre-order for release on November 2, 2010:
