Leave the Light On While Reading
Review by Kim Cantrell
With the impending execution of his wife’s murderer and a serial killer on the loose, FBI Special Agent Sam Markham has a lot on his mind as of late.
Still grieving Michelle’s death, Markham must find a killer whose victims seems to offer no rhyme or reason.
The first two victims are connected to a female impersonators club. The third victim is a well-known lawyer who has no history, public or otherwise, of homosexuality.
What is the connection?
Surprisingly the answer may in the stars.
Following a path that leads from a small tobacco farm in North Carolina to the Iraq war, from a university’s theater arts to France during World War II, Markham uses intense police procedures to find a delusional killer in Gregory Funaro’s new release The Impaler.
If you recall, I fell in love with Funaro’s writing after reading his first book The Sculptor. I felt he was an author to keep an eye on, and I wasn’t wrong!
With an intricate plot written featuring an FBI Agent working within the Behavioral Analysis Unit, The Impaler is a book that’s difficult to put down.
Although the killer’s identity is revealed within the first 75 pages, readers who enjoy police procedure novels will find themselves anxiously turning the pages to answer the question of “Why?”
Funaro incorporates a secondary plot about Markham’s wife’s killer coming up for execution and the actions of a man seeking escape from inconsolable grief. Strong yet discreet, this back story develops a strong main character without distracting from the book’s core story.
If you enjoy fiction, I strongly recommend The Impaler by Gregory Funaro. One caveat, however: don’t read it at bedtime, lest you dream of psychotic killers who appear to be just your typical American Hero. *shudder*
