Fiction with a Dose of Reality
Review by Kim Cantrell
It begins with a homicide that appears to be the result of a random burglary gone wrong. And if not for the keen sense of Brooklyn Homicide Detective Joe Rizzo, it would have been written off as such; just another NYPD unsolved murder.
Rizzo isn’t sure how it could be, but he suspects there may be a link between this murder of a man who was practically a hermit and the unsolved murder of the more attention-getting Broadway producer Avery Mallard.
Rizzo won’t be putting the pieces of puzzle together alone, however – he has a new partner, Detective Third Grade Priscilla “Cil” Jackson. Rizzo may see her as a little green when it comes police work, but he’ll give her a quick lesson in how life (and the job) really works.
Rizzo’s Fireis the second in the Detective Rizzo series by new author Lou Manfredo. And let me tell ya, it ROCKS!
With 292 pages, it’s a great quick read that will hook you from the very first page with its jaded, wise-cracking, sometimes bigoted main character (Det. Rizzo) and it’s gripping, twisting plot.
If you visit here often, you’ll know I’m a reader grounded in reality that tosses in only fiction I find to be factual based. Manfredo has no qualms about exposing the discriminations of veteran cops as well as their sometimes underhanded ways of at getting the real thugs off the streets. Rizzo’s Firealso brings to the spotlight the all-to-real backstabbing and thievery that plays out behind the scenes in the writing world.
Once I started, I couldn’t stop; easily reading the book in less than 24 hours. For those of you who enjoy a little bit of fiction with verisimilitude, then I highly recommend adding Rizzo’s Fire to your reading list!
Rizzo’s Fire is a MUST READ, so go on and get it!
