Friday Fiction: A Conflict of Interest by Adam Mitzner (May 2011)

You Must Read It. Case Closed.
Review by Kim Cantrell

It’s no secret that true crime is my first passion, but the other side of me loves an intense legal thriller too.

John Grisham has long been at the top of my list of legal thriller author favorites, followed closely by Scott Turow (sorry Scott, but John has that deep South setting that I can really relate to!), so when I find an new author who spins a intricate story that’s sure to put him on my faves list, I get very excited and can’t wait to share.

Allow me to introduce you to Adam Mitzner and his debut book A Conflict of Interest, feature Alex Miller – a high priced attorney practicing white collar criminal law as a partner in one of NYC’s most powerful firms.

While at his father’s funeral, Alex meets Michael Ohlig – a lifelong friend of his father. Soon Ohlig hires Alex to represent him as he stands accused of bilking investors out of millions of dollars.

Still coming to terms with is father’s death, juggling Ohlig’s massive case, and doing his best to hold together a failing marriage, all Alex needs is a smart, sexy Associate in the mix. But that’s exactly what he’ll get; enter Abby Sloane.

Just as Alex sees one conflict come to a surprising end, he’s standing on threshold of another that will forever change his life.

All of these things twist and turn into a masterfully woven suspense thriller that’ll keep you reading for hours; if you’re able to put the book down at all. A Conflict of Interestby Adam Mitzner may be his first (official) novel but you wouldn’t know it unless I told you because his writing style is that of an old pro. Of course, like the other “pros” I previously mentioned, he too is an attorney. (I’m still trying to accept that there are lawyers with writing abilities, because all of the ones I worked for couldn’t have written a complete sentence if their lives depended on it. But hey, it’s job security – right?)

I’m sure A Conflict of Interest is just the beginning in what is sure to be a long line of gripping legal thrillers. So don’t be left behind, grab this one now and get on board with new legal thriller writer Adam Mitner!
