Reality Fiction
Review by Kim Cantrell
High school sweethearts Frank and Kate Conway are getting divorced after 20 years of marriage. When 37-year-old Frank suddenly drops dead of something unknown, Kate suddenly finds herself in the hot seat best known as “suspect.” And, as icing on the cake, Vera, Frank’s mistress whom she only just met at the hospital, is doing her best to become Kate’s new best friend.
Oy vey! There’s only one thing left to do for Kate: work. As a Crime TV producer, she throws all of her focus into the new television program Missing Persons. Their first case Theresa Moretti, a young, seemingly innocent woman who disappeared a year earlier. But the more interviews Kate conducts and the more facts that come to light, the more Kate realizes that Theresa may not have been as angelic as she seemed.
When strange things begin to happen, Kate doesn’t know if they’re connect to Frank or Theresa? Or both?
The answers can only be found in Clare Donohue’s newest Kate Conway mystery, appropriately titled Missings Persons. It’s a book that’s full of colorful characters and suspense less the cliche mystery novel crud such as shadowy characters that serve no purpose and leads with no direction. And, although the story foundation involves a divorce, I’m happy to say there is no gushy, mushy romantic entanglements.
The best part for me, however, was the behind-the-scenes look at the making of a reality show. There’s an interesting process that goes into producing these shows. As a matter of fact, I may not ever watch one again without thinking of some of the things I learned here. And since author Clare O’Donohue is a freelance television writer and producer, I feel pretty confident that the writing in Missing Persons is “dead on.”
If you need a quick, fun read then you’ll want to check out Missing Personsby Clare O’Donohue. After you read it, this will be an author you add to your reading list frequently.
