Short & To The Point
Review by Kim Cantrell
John Clifford “Cliff” Youens had been “out of the closet” with his sexuality for quite a few years when he began performing in Houston’s gay bars as a transvestite going by the name of Brandi West, whose act was described as being “a combo of Joan Rivers and Don Rickles.”
Cliff had numerous homosexual relationships, most of them on and off and many ending because of the physical violence inflicted by Cliff. Then a young Louisianian named Patrice LeBlanc appeared on the Houston gay scene.
Straight as an arrow but fascinated by transvestites, Patrice enjoyed hanging out in the gay bars and drinking after hours with performers. Before long, the gay Cliff was shacked up with Patrice in a heterosexual relationship.
It was a bitter relationship filled with ultimatums, screaming fights, and domestic violence. Award winning author Kathryn Casey vividly recalls the brutal 1986 murder of Patrice LeBlanc in her true crime short story The Drag Queen Murder.
Only 26 pages, Casey keeps it short and sweet with this eBook only story and the result is an interesting story sans a boring investigation and trial. It’s perfect for those short attention span reading occasions – you know the ones I’m talking about, right?
So read it now or read it later, but definitely read it: The Drag Queen Murder, a true crime short, by Kathryn Casey.
